Pyro priest lights up community
For Father Anthony Koppman, gathering around a bonfire and letting off fireworks with his neighbours embodied what it meant to be part of a community.
Today he’s keeping that spirit alive not only through his work as the parish priest of Saint Mary of the Angels Church in Guyra, but literally as a pyrotechnician.
Although only a hobby, Father Koppman’s aptly titled business, Holy Smoke, provides a unique service. His rates are cheaper than companies operating for profit, so he can service smaller towns and community events that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford fireworks.
