The shearing game

Shearing is one of the toughest jobs in the world and Lionel Garner runs a hard working, hard partying crew of shearers and roustabouts in Hay, NSW. He’s been in the game for 28 years and survived drought, competition and his latest win, two knee reconstructions.

Competition between shearers is fierce, in the wool shed and in the pub, they take pride in their skills and speed with the clippers.

But drugs, alcohol and an itinerant lifestyle take their toll.
