24 hours at triple j
Can minimalists be sentimental?
I like to pretend I can live life lean, but I’ve kept every birthday card I’ve ever been given.
Over the years, I’ve got better. But there’s one thing I can’t bring myself to throw out.
While doing a recent clean-out I stumbled over it again.
It’s a clipping from j mag (circa 2005) — triple j’s then monthly magazine.
I thought the mag was the coolest thing and looking at its design now I think it stacks up.
But what I loved most were the behind the scenes articles where they peeled the curtin back to show how the station ran. This is why I’d kept it so long. I think at one point I had it blu-tacked on my wall.
This article chronicles a full 24 hours inside Australia’s youth broadcaster, including the people who brought the music and ideas to life.
Many of the names mentioned are still in the radio industry and have gone on to incredible careers.
Because it was made for a magazine so long ago I’m not sure it lives anywhere on the internet.
So with love, and in the interest of archiving, I’m sharing it with you now (sorry it’s creased and small and blurry!).
